What is Day on the Hill?
This is a day that you, as home care providers, and those who support you, can meet and talk with your legislators about who you are and what you do everyday.  Our focus this year will be on educating legislators about home care and the current Medicaid payment cuts effective 12/1/2009, in addition to our other 2010 legislative priorities.  Day on the Hill is also a great opportunity for you to learn about the legislative process.

Who should attend?
All IAHC members, home care administrators, home care nurses, home care aides, home care agency owners, and ALL the employers, consumers, educators, advocates, policy makers, and families who support Iowa home care providers.  Guests are welcome.  Consider sharing a ride with one or more colleagues.

What to wear?
Normal business attire. No jeans please.

What to bring?
You will be given a copy of the packet that is posted to the website.  It is advised that you take a look at it ahead of time so you know what to expect.  Also, feel free to bring any other relevant information you wish to bring with to share with legislators.  The event will last until around 1:00 and lunch will be on your own after that.

Where to meet?
We realize that many members are not familiar with legislator advocacy.  For the first part of our agenda, our lobbyists will be orienting participants with the legislative process and how to approach legislators at 9:30 a.m. in the State Capitol cafeteria.  In addition, other IAHC members will be present to serve as mentors and accompany interested members when they talk with their senator/representative.

Unable to attend in person?
If you are unable to attend, you can still call or email your legislators.  Here is an example of a message you might leave or send:
