Iowa Alliance in Home Care invites you to submit presentation proposals for the IAHC 2009 Annual Conference and Expo.  This year’s event will be held at The Meadows Events and Conference Center in Altoona, Iowa, on June 9-10, 2009. Take part in our most comprehensive education and our largest home care industry networking event. The IAHC Annual Conference and Expo serves as a forum for learning and examining new and revealing perspectives of the delivery of quality care in a variety of home living environments.  Submissions may cover a wide range of current and emerging industry and management issues, best practices, and challenges.

Conference Themes and Audience

There are many definitions of home health care. We focus on the target audiences who share something in common; this common element may be regulations, needs, interests, practices, or other bases of home health. Our keynote speaker this year is Mary St. Pierre from the National Association for Home Care & Hospice. The topic Mary plans to cover includes updates on regulatory issues and home care trends. Attendees typically include home health agency administrators, directors, financial managers, and clinical managers.

Types of Presentations

Presentations will consist of keynote sessions, concurrent sessions, and general sessions. Keynote presentations are typically 90 minutes in length, while concurrent and general sessions run 60 minutes in length. Topics requiring more time may be considered as Part I and Part II. Sessions may be presented in a variety of ways to encourage interaction, such as:

  • Round Table – A facilitator encourages the sharing of information within and among groups.

  • Panel – A small group of presenters shares information with the audience, which might be asked to offer their views.

  • Role-Play – Individuals act out situations to illustrate points.

  • Lecture

Submitting Papers and Workshop Proposals

A completed application must be submitted electronically to Amy Huisman (ahuisman@iowahomecare.org ), and will undergo a peer review process.

Proposals are evaluated and reviewed by IAHC’s Education Committee based on the following criteria:

  •  Relevance to home care,

  • Timely or innovative topic,

  • Overall quality and well-defined focus,

  • Practical application of materials,

  • Clearly identified objectives,

  • Teaching/speaking experience of presenter and

  • Freedom from commercial bias.

Workshops are 60 minutes in length and built around specific themes relevant to the conference. Workshop proposals should define the theme(s) of the workshop, the main activities and goals, the background, and the contact information of the organizer(s). The maximum number of co- presenters is three (3). The proposal should also include a brief summary of no more than 150 words suitable for describing the workshop in our conference program book.

There is no limit to the number of proposals a presenter may submit. Proposals submitted by industry vendors are welcome. However, the content must be free from commercial bias.

Once you are ready to submit your completed paper and/or workshop proposal, you may email it to ahuisman@iowahomecare.org. IAHC may seek modifications to a proposal before a final decision is made and presenters may be asked to combine elements in their presentations with other related proposals. Papers must be sent in either Microsoft Word or PDF format. Once accepted, final proposals will receive an acceptance letter and instructions to assist with the marketing of the session.

IAHC recognizes you as a valued partner critical to the success to our Annual Meeting.  The conference program includes competitively selected, peer-reviewed papers, as well as workshops, tutorials, and a small number of invited speakers. There is no remuneration being offered for submitted presentations. However, let us know how we can return value for the expertise you bring.
